Richmond, Maine - a wonderful place to live and visit

Living and Playing in Richmond

Richmond is a charming community centrally located with easy access to Topsham, Brunswick, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Portland and the Capital of Augusta.  All of which offer cultural activities, galleries, shops and dining.

The town is made up of beautiful farms, Victorian and Greek revival homes and a growing vibrant village with a supportive community with a rich historical story to tell.  Its great to live in a town with such a historically significant background from Swan Island, actually an abandoned 18th and 19th century town called Perkins Township and has long been recognized for its varied and interesting history.  It was used by Native American tribes, early explorers and settlers and was reportedly visited by American historical figures such as Aaron Burr and Benedict Arnold.  The town is also known for its shipbuilding, dairy farms and tails of the underground railroad.

The town comes together and gathers for the annual Richmond Days Celebration held in late July, along with our first fall festival held this past October 2007.  Festivities and parades are the norm around here!

The town offers a great school system K-12 which includes an elementary school and Middle/High School, churches, a post office, medical center, grocery, professional offices, a marina, unique shops and galleries, restaurants and so much more...

Richmond's growing waterfront offers moorings, docking services such as gas, power and pump-out, with easy access to the North along the Kennebec up to Augusta or to the South headed towards Bath to the open Atlantic.  Neighboring Swan Island offers picnics and camping among its beautiful historical and visually abundant wildlife island.

So come for a visit whether your traveling by car or boat, stroll up the hill for an ice cream, shop in the unique art galleries, have lunch at the Railway Cafe or grab a cold brew and an unforgettable panini from the "Old Goat Pub."  Don't forget to grab some supplies form the area hardware, or grocery store for your coastal cruise...
